The Waikele Elementary School project initially involved master planning of the entire campus and design of the first increment facilities of a new elementary school for the State of Hawaii’s Leeward Oahu School District. CDS also designed the second increment under a subsequent contract. The school accommodates 750 students in a multi-track program in which students attend three of the four terms offered for each grade level during an academic year. The school contains an administrative center, library with media center, cafetorium with full service kitchen, two permanent classroom buildings containing 35 classrooms, and six portable classroom buildings. The entire school complex, except for the cafetorium, is centrally air conditioned to allow year round attendance.
